Minecraft

Not just a game, but also a learning Tool and Platform. Advance gaming skills, by using command line blocks, and game enhancing mods.

Advanced Minecraft: Command Block

New Class! Get ready to wire up your Minecraft worlds with Command Blocks and Redstone! Even if you’re a seasoned Minecraft pro, there’s plenty for you to learn. From basic traps to powered machines, Redstone offers Minecraft players a whole new range of opportunities to create amazing things. Minecraft’s Command Block is a psuedo-programming language that consists of logic and execution written in text. We’ll learn to spawn creatures, teleport all over the world, and make multi-player games.

Minecraft Game Designer

New Class! Don’t just play Minecraft! Turn Minecraft from a game into a visual learning tool! This class will reinforce problem solving skills and spatial cognition through learning to create in-game Dungeons and Treasure Map. Student working in pairs, will learn basic game design skills while they collaborate to build Adventure maps, as well as some other advanced features in Minecraft. This class has a strong emphasis on creativity, exploration, and cooperative learning experiences.

Multiplayer Minecraft: Map Builder

Work as a team to create a custom multi-player adventure map, that features monster spawners, hidden armor, and more. Choose to design an in-game dungeon or build a castle to explore. Use command blocks together to create this world! Learn the internal language of Minecraft and use it on yourself and others in a multiplayer server. Teleport, trap, and prank each other using a variety of different commands and command block types.

Java Minecraft Modding: Custom Armor

New Class! In this camp, we will be creating custom Armor. Learn to mod Minecraft using Java and the Forge API and customize your gaming experience. Students will be introduced to coding concepts and learn how to use Eclipse, a professional tool to edit and debug code. Students should be comfortable with keyboarding, and of course playing Minecraft! At the end of the class take home your Mods to share with family and friends. Bring a USB Drive, drink & snack to class.

Multiplayer Minecraft: Theme Park Builder

Work as a team to create a custom theme park in Minecraft. Use command blocks and redstone to create this world! Possible projects include roller coasters, water rides, trampoline park, obstacle course, a boat race, bumper boats, a dunk tank, and many more rides and attractions! Multiplayer Minecraft: World Builder

Unleash your creativity as you work collaboratively! Create a world with others in four unique, themed quadrants. Build different biomes, or base a section on your favorite movie or video game! Meld your quadrants together with bridges, and separate them with moats of water, lava, or even the void! Students will get a copy of the world map to take home and expand on. We will be using the PC/Java Edition of Minecraft.

Hacking Minecraft: Mods, Skins, and Textures

New Class! New mods explored! Minecraft, one of the most popular video games in history, offers an amazing world of endless possibilities limited only by your imagination. This class is for intermediate and advanced Minecrafters. Students will learn how to expand their world’s abilities using popular game-enhancing mods. Participate in building challenges. We will also explore creating and editing skins and textures using Gimp.

Scratch 3.0 Game Coding

New Class! This course will give you hands-on experience developing your own game using Scratch 3, a visual coding platform. Students will learn how to think like a programmer, and learn coding concepts while creating a two-dimensional game. The first part of the class will be instructor-led; with the time remaining, students will have the opportunity to customize their games. Bring a USB drive, a drink, and a snack to class.

Python Coding

Get a great head start in learning how to code using one of the key programming languages used by professional developers – Python. Its syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than would be possible in languages such as C++ or Java, making it the perfect coding language for beginners. Python is a text-based language; students should have familiarity with keyboarding and basic computer skills. Please bring a drink and snack daily.

Java Game Coding

New Class! Students working on individual computers will be introduced to object-oriented programming and elements of the Java language while learning to code their text-based RPG (Roleplaying Game). No programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with doing common tasks using a computer operating system (text-editing and understanding directory structures) and keyboarding is required. Bring a USB drive on the last day, and a snack and drink each day.

Nintendo Game Coding

We scoured the Scratch website and assembled a collection of the most popular game sprites. Choose characters from Undertale, Pokémon, Nintendo, Minecraft and even classic characters like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Sonic, and Mario!  Possible games created: Mario Kart, Pokémon Pong, and Sonic Frogger. Bring a USB drive to save your games on the last day, or they can be emailed to parents.

3D Printing and Modeling

New class! This 3D Printing camp take students through the 3D printing process from start to finish. In this camp, students will design 3D objects and use the 3D slicing program Cura to bring their creations to life.

From industrial design and manufacturing to software and hardware engineering, the 3D printing industry is booming. This course serves as an excellent introduction to 3D printing and is ideal for students who like to draw, design, imagine, and see their creations come to life.

Game Modding with Unity

New Class!  Students will learn to use Unity, a powerful programming suite used by professionals and indie game developers, to make and mod micro-video games. We’ll make speed booster pad, custom triggers, track twists, animations, and more. Learn to make video games more fun by creating custom modifications. Extreme Robotics: Battlebot Olympics

New Class! Students will work in small teams using the EV3 Mindstorms Robotic Systems and specialized LEGO® Technic engineering components to build extreme robots and use programs to experiment with and overcome Olympic-style challenges. Students will then be then challenged to morph their projects into better, stronger, or faster robots. Possible robotic projects include Shot Put Launcher, Flipping Gymnast, Sumobot, and more.

Yes, We CAN learn about Robotics! With the LEGO™ WeDo Robotics System, young children can build and program their robotic creations. Young imaginations soar! Star Wars Robotic Builders

Designed by the experts at MIT, this unique system teaches students about simple machines, engineering, programming, and so much more. Working in pairs, students will create Star Wars and space-inspired robots. This course builds knowledge of simple machines, engineering, programming, and teamwork in an environment full of galactic fun! Your students will build LEGO® models featuring motors, tilt sensors, motion detectors, and a USB Robotics Hub. Models include AT-ST Biped, Spinning Tie Fighter, Cannons, and other out-of-this-world models. Please bring a drink and snack daily.

Junior Engineering: Theme Parks

Have a blast using LEGO® Techics® Engineering Kits to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a team-based environment. During each session, we will be exploring new engineering principles such as gears, wheels, levers, and pulleys. Then we will build working theme park rides and machines that reinforce concepts learned. After each building project, students will customize, share, compete in challenges and enjoy experimenting with their creations. Possible models include Catapult Games, Crazy Floors, Merry-Go-Rounds, Go-Karts, Moving Clowns, Popcorn Carts, and more.

Junior Engineering: Crazy Gears and Wheels

If you love LEGOs, making things move, building, and experimenting – this class is for you.  Learn about engineering and the physical science principles behind different action machines. Working in teams, students will build crazy wheeled and geared contraptions that spring into action. Have fun while you learn the principles of mechanical engineering and simple machines. Make tops, spinners, zip lines, rubber band-powered cars, crimping cars, and other crazy contraptions. Please bring a drink and snack daily.

3D Engineering: Architectural and Structural Design

Bring your imagination to life. Become a master bricklayer and use our special architectural LEGO® kits to build your creations. Be an architect as you learn the principles of construction. The main goal of the course is to introduce the concept of 3 dimensions and its role in design. Working in teams, students will construct buildings, structures, towers, castles, and more. Students will learn principles of construction and use math skills as they experiment with scale and size, staggering vs. stacking bricks, and more. We’ll build houses with removable roofs, castles with turrets, and towers of strength! It might just be impossible to exhaust the creative potential of LEGO® bricks. With an active imagination as your guide, there are endless possibilities. Please bring a drink and snack daily.

Engineering: Solar, Hydro, and Wind Powered

Combine engineering and alternative energy (solar, hydro, and wind)! Build cars, cranes, drawbridges, etc. from LEGO® kits and operate them using alternative energy sources. Students working in teams will experiment with wind, water, and solar panels, resulting in a high-powered, high-energy course! Projects include waterwheel, windmill, Ferris wheel, and solar car. Students achieve an understanding of how energy is developed from the sun, wind, and water. Solar energy can be captured by the LEGO® Solar Cell and used to power their models. On the last day, students will use the concepts they learned to design and create a test car to compete against their classmates.  Please bring a drink and snack daily.

Engineering: Extreme Machines and Ziplines

Build hand-triggered contraptions and other LEGO® machines that spin, swing, pivot, roll, lift, and drop. Each machine alone is awesome but put them together and you get incredible chain reactions. With an active imagination as your guide, there are endless possibilities. Then, we will experiment with several different zip lines. Master Bricklayers: Structural and Architectural Design

We are passionate about inspiring an interest in engineering! This hands-on experience is a perfect introduction to science concepts like structural engineering, architectural design, physics, external forces, and much more! Students will move through advanced building exercises in which they learn the complexities of designing structures and investigate the impact of external forces. In this camp, students will follow step-by-step builds, then test their new skills with open-ended building challenges and design projects.

Young children love to build! In this unique class they learn to do just that. Our hands-on exploration of simple machines introduces students to the basic concepts of physical science, math & engineering. Our Lego engineering projects take shape and will amaze our young architects! This course is a great all-around adventure for the youngest learners. Students will be introduced to simple machines and gears. Projects may include: Pinwheels, Spinning Top, and a Rotating Fan.

Video Production for YouTube

Learn how to create YouTube content! Shoot videos, edit sound, and create an online presence with YouTube. YouTube is the top destination for online videos. Learn tricks that pro filmmakers use for better shots, lighting, and sounds. Edit your video, add transitions, insert a soundtrack, capture a video gaming session. Then share your finished video with the world. Students will have their own computers to edit with but will be sharing video equipment.

Minecraft is the gaming phenomenon focused on creativity and allowing players to build environments out of textured cubes in a 3D virtual world. Working in pairs, students will be introduced to Minecraft in real life with our customized LEGOs, and finally, film a stop-motion movie using Minecraft-inspired LEGO® creations. Star Wars Jedi Movie Making

From a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars comes to life! Work on a stop-motion animated LEGO® Star Wars movie. Star Wars action figures, LEGOs, and backdrops will be available for filming in class. Handle all the technical details, including using a digital movie camera, filming scenes, doing stop-motion animation, digital editing, and adding finishing touches, special effects, and transitions to the movie. In this exciting hands-on learning class, our instructors will take your student through the entire digital filmmaking process from start to finish using our Frames software.
