Java Game Coding
About our coding class
What is Java?
Java is one of the most popular computer programming languages in the world and widely used on a variety of different machines. It is a programming language that is object-oriented, class-based, and very versatile, making it an ideal language for intro level courses.
About our class
New Class! Students working on individual computers will be introduced to object-oriented programming and elements of the Java language while learning to code their text-based RPG (Roleplaying Game). No programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with doing common tasks using a computer operating system (text-editing and understanding directory structures) and keyboarding is required. Bring a USB drive on the last day, and a snack and drink each day.
Continued learning
After the class
In this course, students learned about Java and the basics of computer programming through the creation of a text-based RPG (role-playing game).
Parent Activity Suggestions:
- Java is freely available to download and available on most operating systems. Download Java on your home computer and have your child demonstrate what they learned with the programs he/she created in class. What are the different parts of the program? How do you run the program? How do you fix it if something goes wrong?
