What is Python?

Python is a clear and powerful open source, high level, general purpose, interpreted programming language comparable to Perl, Ruby, Scheme, or Java. Python combines remarkable power with very clear syntax and is used widely by professional programmers in many high tech computing environments.

About our class

Get a great head start in learning how to code using one of the key programming languages used by professional developers – Python. Its syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than would be possible in languages such as C++ or Java, making it the perfect coding language for beginners. Python is a text-based language; students should have familiarity with keyboarding and basic computer skills. Please bring a drink and snack daily.

• Download Python on your home computer and have your child demonstrate what they learned with the programs he/she created in class. What are the different parts of the program? How do you run the program? How do you fix it if something goes wrong?
