About our class

Work on a stop-motion animated POKEMON movie. Pick your favorite characters to star in your mini-movie; the possibilities are endless. Action figures, props, and backdrops will be available for filming in class. Handle all the technical details including using a digital movie camera, filming scenes, doing stop-motion animation, digital editing, and adding finishing touches, special effects, and transitions to the movie. Students’ groups’ final projects will be emailed to parents, or students may bring a USB jump drive the last day.

After the class

In this class, students created a movie using Frames. Frames is a program that makes it easy for students to make their own stop-motion movies by taking pictures with webcams. Students created their own movies by taking pictures and adding text, clipart, drawings, and sound effects. With Frames, students learned about the movie making process from start to finish while making a fun movie in accordance with the theme of the class.

Parent Activity Suggestions:

  • Read a favorite storybook together and discuss with your child how he/she would make that book into a movie. What would happen first? Who would the main characters be? What would the scenery look like? Make a storyboard to show the action that would take place in your movie.
  • Ask your child about video editing. What are transitions? What types of transitions did the group use this week? What are video effects? Did the group use video effects? What about credits?

To play your movie:

Insert your flash drive into your computer, and double click on the file ending in .mov. Enjoy!
